There is no contest here. A brand new, high-quality window AC unit costs between $200 and $500. Installing a completely new central air system (including ductwork) can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000. If budget is your primary concern, window ACs win hands down.

Zoned Cooling Efficiency

A major hidden benefit of window units is 'zoned cooling'. You only cool the rooms you are currently using. If you are sleeping in your bedroom, you don't need to pay to cool the living room or kitchen.
